Description of key information

Reliable toxicity studies in invertebrates and algae (both rated as Klimisch 1) have been conducted for butyl ethyl ether and are included in the dossier.

The lowest EC50 was determined for Daphnia magna Straus in a 48-hour study according to the OECD test guideline 202 (2004) with 75.7 mg/L (Knauer 2017).

Additional information

Toxicity to invertebrates:

A short-term toxicity study with Daphnia magna Straus was performed with butyl ethyl ether in a GLP-compliant test according to the OECD guideline 202 (2004) with a 48-hour-EC50 (mobility) of 75.7 mg/L. Consequently, this value will be taken as the short-term toxicity in invertebrates endpoint for butyl ethyl ether.

Toxicity to algae:

A short-term toxicity study with freshwater algae (Raphidocelis subcapitata) was performed with butyl ethyl ether in a GLP-compliant test according to the OECD guideline 201 (2006) with a 72-hour-EC50 (growth rate) of 175.2 mg/L and a 72 -hour-NOEC (growth rate) of < 52.7.mg/L. The ErC50 value of 175.2 mg/L will be taken as the short-term toxicity in freshwater algae endpoint for butyl ethyl ether.
