Description of key information
Appearance:
On the basis physical observation given chemical 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine is physically appear to be colourless to pale yellow liquid.
Melting point:
The Freezing point of 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine; CAS No. 5570-77-4 was determined with Freezing Temperature Method and it was determined to be less than -10.96 °C at 970.2 hPa.
Boiling Point:
The boiling point determination of Test item 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine (CAS No. 5570 -77 - 4 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according to Siwoloboff. The mean boiling point was observed to be 169.6°C at 971.5 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine (CAS No. 5570-77-4)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the IS 4730 : 1994 (Reaffirmed 2010) –Method for Determination of Density of Liquids (First Revision) using glass pyknometer .The mean density of test item was determined to be 1.0031 g/cm³ and 20°C and 970.1 hPa.
Particle size distribution:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form (On the basis physical observation given chemical 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine is physically appear to be liquid.)
Vapour pressure:
The estimated vapour pressure of 4-chloro-1-methylpiperidine at 25 deg C was 349.30 Pa.
Partition coefficient:
The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine (CAS No.5570-77-4) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals.The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Pow range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were having Pow value ranging from 0.5 to 4.6. The Log Pow value was determined to be 1.318 ± 0.0327 at 25°C.
Water solubility:
This value indicates that 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine is moderately soluble in water.
The water solubility determination of test item 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine;CAS No.5570-77-4 was doneby spectrophotometric method. The water solubility was observed to be 1532.92 mg/L at 29°C.
Surface tension:
Surface tension of 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine is predicted from modelling source is 0.0319 N/m.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of 4-chloro-N-methylpiperidine (CAS No. 5570-77-4)was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was observed to be 47.3°C at 970.8hPa.
Auto flammability:
4-chloro-1-methylpiperidine did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 4-chloro-1-methylpiperidine is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
4-chloro-1-methylpiperidine does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 4-chloro-1-methylpiperidine is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 4-chloro-1 -methylpiperidine was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
Oxidizing properties:
