Description of key information

Based on the test results, it was determined that the test substance was not flammable and was also not flammable in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

In a GLP compliant study the flammability of the test substance, and the flammability of the test substance in contact with water, were determined following the EU Methods L 142/82 Method A.10 and L 142/87 Method A.12. respectively. The test substance did not ignite during direct contact with the hot flame from a gas burner. The test substance sparked and then melted in the presence of the flame. Based on these results, it was determined that the test substance was not flammable.

Following addition of the test substance to an evaporating dish containing water at room temperature, following addition of the test substance to filter paper on the surface of water at room temperature, or following drop wise addition of water at room temperature onto a pile of test substance, no evolved gas was observed and no ignition was observed. The rate of evolved gas from the test substance was determined in triplicate. The rate was estimated to be < 1 L/kg per hour in each of the three determinations. Therefore, it can be concluded that the test substance is not flammable in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results of the GLP-compliant guideline study, classification of the substance for flammability is not warranted in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
