Water quality
The water quality parameters were generally within the preferred ranges with the exception of the change in pH during the test. The pH change was a result of the good growth of the cultures and could not be avoided.
Analysis of aquatic toxicity test media
The reduction in Pentene-1 concentration during the test was = 20%.
Toxicity test
At nominal concentrations = 1.8% of a saturated solution, the mean measured concentration was less than the limit of determination of the analytical method. However, there was no inhibition of culture growth in these vessels and therefore toxicity data from these concentrations were not included in the calculation of the EC50 values.

- Executive summary:
The toxicity of Pentene-1 to the unicellular alga Raphidocelis subcapitata has been determined in a 72 -hour growth inhibition test, adhering to OECD Guideline 201, without renewal of the test media.
The concentration of Pentene-1 in the test media was determined using a high performance liquid chromatography technique.
Concentrations decreased by less than 20% during the test. The toxicity data have been analysed on the basis of the geometric means of the concentrations measured at the start and end of the test.
The 72-hour ErC50 of the test substance to Raphidocelis subcapitata has been determined to be 21 mg/l. The 72 -hour NOEC has been determined to be 27 mg/l.
The test was conducted in a GLP facility in accordance with validated test guidelines therefore a reliability of 1 is assigned.
