Short-term toxicity to fish

The effect concentration (EC50) value of biphenyl-2-ylamine fish (Brachydanio rerio (new name: Danio rerio)) in a 96 hr study on mortality effect was found to be 94.197181702 mg/L.

 

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The lethal concentration (LC50) value of biphenyl-2-ylamine Daphnia magna in a 48 hr study on mortality effect was found to be 26.298440933 mg/L.

Therefore the LC50 was considered to be 26.298440933 mg/L for biphenyl-2-ylamine and it is not readily biodegradable in nature indicating that test substance likely to exhibit short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates in aquatic chronic 3 category as per the Harmonized CLP classification.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The effective concentration (EC50) value based on QSAR prediction of biphenyl-2-ylamine in aquatic algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) in 72 hrs was estimate to be 11.782361984 mg/l.

Therefore the EC50 was considered to be 11.782361984mg/L for biphenyl-2-ylamine and it is not readily biodegradable in nature indicating that test substance likely to exhibit toxicity to aquatic algae in aquatic chronic 3 category as per the Harmonized CLP classification.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

5 days Chronic study was conducted on bacterial strain Burkholderia sp. O33 to study the effects of toxic effects of biphenylamine. 72±19 % inhibition was observed after exposure to Biphenylamine.

The test chemical found to induce mild to moderate inhibitory growth  effects on the microorganism. Based on the effects the Low observed effect concentration (LOEC) was found to be 0.846mg/l.
