As reported in SIDS Dossier of MnO2 approved at SIAM 25 (17 -18 October 2007) with reference to Roels et all, Influence of the route of administration and the chemical form (MnCl2, MnO2) on the absorption and cerebral distribution of manganese in rats, Archives of Toxicology, 71(4): 223-230,1997, MnO2 tested on rats for 4 weeks was more readily accumulated in the blood and brain sub-regions via intraperitoneal injection > intratracheal instillation > oral gavage.
Moreover, following the administration of manganese to rats, the elimination of manganese from the brain is much lower compared to the whole body (see SIDS Dossier of MnO2 approved at SIAM 25 (17 -18 October 2007) with reference to Barceloux, Manganese, Journal of Toxicology. Clinical Toxicology, 37(2): 293-307, 1999)
After inhalation exposition to MnO2 on mouse for 16-32 week, the concentration of Mn was significally increased in organ and tissue (blood, liver, kidneys, lungs, cerebrum) but no histopathologic effect was observed.(see SIDS Dossier of MnO2 approved at SIAM 25 (17 -18 October 2007) with reference to Morganti et all, Uptake, distribution and behavioral effects of inhalation exposure to manganese (MnO2) in the adult mouse, Neurotoxicology, 6(1): 1-15, 1985).
