Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Phototransformation in air

After evaporation or exposure to the air, ethylene oxide will be slowly degraded by photochemical processes.

Hydrolysis

In contact with water ethylene oxide will hydrolyse slowly.

Biodegradation

Ethylene oxide is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.

Bioaccumulation

Bioaccumulation of ethylen oxide in aquatic organisms is not to be expected.

Adsorption / desorption

Adsorption of ethylene oxide to the solid soil phase is not to be expected.

Henry's Law constant

From the water surface, ethylene oxide will evaporate slowly into the atmosphere.

Environmental distribution modelling

Over time, the substance will preferentally distribute into the compartment water (92.3%) and air (7.75%).
