Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Transformation/dissolution of PbO

24-hr screening transformation/dissolution tests were carried out on lead monoxide.

  • The release of lead to the aqueous medium at 24h for the 100 mg/L loading was 101 µg/L at pH 8 (nominal)

Considering the acute toxicity reference values at pH6 and pH7 and the higher solubility at the T/Dp screening test pH, it can be deduced/concluded that with the information available, PbO would fail the 24h screening test and should therefore be classified as Acute 1, Chronic 1.

In any case, this substance is included in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 Annex VI Table 3.1 under the entry “lead compounds with the exception of those specified elsewhere in this Annex (Index No 082-001-00-6). As such, the harmonised classification of Acute 1, Chronic 1 is legally binding.
