Description of key information
No test results have been located on effects of Si/FeSi silicate on sediment species. Sediment compartment is relevant compartment for testing, if exposure of particulate/massive FeSi silicate to this compartment is relevant. New sediment tests need to be performed to fulfill REACH Annex IX demand if necessary. Exposure based adaptation rules have been given for testing requirements for sediment compartment under Annex IX. Substances that are potentially capable of depositing on sediments to a significant extent have to be assessed for toxicity to sediment-dwelling organisms. Si/FeSi-silicate is poorly water soluble substances and therefore can precipitate instantly to sediments (as particulate material) in the vicinity of discharge point if released directly to aquatic environment.
If any use of Si/FeSi-silicate is such that exposure of (particulate/powdered) material to sediment compartment is likely and remarkable, a testing strategy for the sediment compartment is necessary for the derivation of a PNECsediment.
