Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Data on the aquatic or terrestrial bioaccumulation of sodium dichromate are not available. The substance sodium dichromate consists of sodium cations and dichromate anions (Cr2O7(2 -)). Based on the solubility of sodium dichromate in water, read-across to data available for other (soluble) chromate substances is applied. Please refer to the respective endpoint summaries for further information.

Data on soluble chromium(VI) substances

Based on a weight of evidence approach using data on aquatic bioaccumulation in fish, crustacea and aquatic plants, a low potential for bioaccumulation is observed for chromium (VI). A similar conclusion was made in the EU RAR (ECB, 2005), i.e. the bioaccumulation factor for chromium (VI) in fish is relatively low at around 1 L/kg. Further, the potential for terrestrial bioaccumulation seems to be low based on a non-reliable study with Lolium perenne (ryegrass) and a soluble Cr(VI) substance that reports BSAF values of ≤ 0.004 for shoots and roots (Otabbong, 1990; Klimisch 3).
