Description of key information

D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C10-16-alkyl polyglycosides (CAS: 110615-47-9) is considered to be harmful to aquatic algae under conditions tested.

The toxic effects of D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C10-16-alkyl polyglycosides (CAS: 110615-47-9) to marine and freshwater algae were evaluated. For the freshwater organisms the green algae Scenedesmus subspicatus was the most sensitive organism with an EC50 (72 h) of 12.5 mg a.i./L (Stelter, 1995). Another study exhibited an EC50 (72 h) for S. subspicatus of 19 mg a.i./L which is almost in the same range, and a related EC0 (72 h) of 2 mg/L for biomass (Rieche, 1994). The freshwater tests were performed according to Annex of 92/69/EWG and DIN 38412, part 9. For the marine algae (mainly Skeletonema costatum) the EC(L)50 (72 h) values ranged from 1.17 mg a.i./L – 9.85 mg a.i./L (Hudson, 2001 and 2003). Related NOEC (72 h) values of 1.8 mg a.i./L and 3.2 mg a.i./L were reported, respectively (Hudson, 2003). It should be considered that the lowest NOELR value of 0.5 mg a.i./L from the marine toxicity tests (Hudson, 2001) is based on nominal concentrations prepared by water accommodated fraction (WAF) without analytics, hence this value is not put forward for the assessment.
