Description of key information

About Samarium oxide two studies were available, one about the analogue substance Cerium carbonate, here no effects on toxicity to aquatic algae up to the limit of water solubility were observed.
The other studay about samsarium oxide itself showed that significant inhibition of algal growth could be only observed at the highest concentrated treatment containing 100 mg/L (nominal concentration). Below this concentration no effects were observed.

Below this concentration no effects were observed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
94 µg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
19 µg/L
