Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 72 hour EL50 to Scenedesmus subspicatus was > 100 mg/L.
The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOELR) after 72 hours exposure was ≥ 100 mg/L.
The study was read across from dicerium tricarbonate

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

This study has been read across from the structurally similar substance dicerium tricarbonate. The substances have similar toxicological and environmental profiles and therefore this read across is considered acceptable. The study has been assigned a reliability score of 2, in accordance with the scheme of Klimisch et. al. (1997).

Algal suspensions were exposed to the test item with a loading rate of 100 mg/L (corrected for water content) and to dilutions 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, 1:32. Additionally, a control was tested in parallel. The algal cell densities were counted daily, and inhibition of algal growth was assessed.

The test item had a statistically significant inhibitory effects on the growth of Scenedesmus subspicatus after the test period of 72 h first at the loading rate of 50 mg/L. Thus, this loading rate was determined as the 72h-LOELR. The 72h-NOELR was determined to be the loading rate of 25 mg/L. The 72h-EL50 was > 100 mg/L.
