Acutely harmful to aquatic organisms. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:

The acute toxicity of the test substance on zebra fish was determined according to OECD guideline 203. The test vessels were not aerated during the test procedure in order to prevent a potential evaporation of the test substance into the air. The LC50 value was determined to be 120 mg/L (BASF AG 82/213, 1983).Therefore, the test substance is considered to be “with high probability acutely not harmful to fish”.

The toxicity of the test substance to Daphnia magna was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 202. The EC50 (48h) was determined to be 63.6 mg/L, based on the geometric mean measured concentrations (BASF SE 50E0535/11X284, 2013). Therefore, the test substance is considered to be “acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates”.

The toxicity of the test substance to Desmodesmus subspicatus was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201. The EC50 (72h, growth rate) was determined to exceed the highest tested concentration of 120 mg/L, based on the analytically verified nominal concentration (BASF SE 60E0535/11X283, 2012). Therefore, the test substance is considered to be "with high probability not harmful to aquatic algae".

The EC20 value was determined to be 750 mg/L in a guideline study according to OECD 209 (BASF AG 92/2466/08/1, 1996).Furthermore, the EC10 (16h) value of the test item to Pseudomonas putida was found to be 2600 mg/L in a study according to DIN 38412, part 8 (BASF AG 92/2466/70/1, 1992). Therefore, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
