Description of key information

This endpoint is waived in accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH Regulation as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Xanthates does not contain groups that are know to contribute to explosive properties, shown in Table R.7.1-28 (ECHA , Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment. Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance, May 2008)

The dry powder of xanthates can form explosive dust-air mixture.

Solid xanthates on contact with moisture or heated above 1500C release extremely flammable carbon disulfide

(2011,CCOHS, CHEMINFO, sodium ethyl xanthate, http://ccinfoweb2.ccohs.ca/cheminfo)

For carbon disulfide: – lower explosive limit in air 1,3 vol.%,

upper explosive limit in air 50,0 vol.%.
