Short-term toxicity to fish

In an acute toxicity screening test rainbow trouts equivalent to OECD 203, (no data about GLP) were exposed to SIM-Ester concentrations of 1,10,100 and 1000 mg/L (10 fish per concentration) for 96 hours. Under the test conditions of the present study the LC50 was assessed to be > 1000 mg/L.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

In an acute toxicity test to Daphnia magna (OECD 202, EU Method C.2, GLP compliance) SIM-Ester was tested in a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L for an exposure duration of 48h. Under the conditions of the present limit test an EC50 value of > 100 mg/L was determined.

Toxicity to auqatic algae

In a growth inhibition test on algae (OECD 201, EU Method C.3, GLP compliance) SIM-Ester was tested in a limit test (100 mg/L) over a test period of 72 hours. Since the measured concentration of the test item was out of the range (80 -120%) at the end of the test the exposure concentration was calculated as geometric mean which is corresponding to 80.6 mg/L. The obtained results showed that the test item had no toxic effect on algae up to at least the concentration of 80.6 mg/L. Accordingly, the EC10 and EC50 values based on growth rate and yield were determined to be higher than 80.6 mg/L. The NOEC was determined to be equal or higher than 80.6 mg/L.

Toxicity to microorganisms

The toxicity of SIM-Ester to activated sludge was tested in a respiration inhibition test (OECD 209, EU Method C.11, GLP compliance) at nominal concentrations of 5,16 and 50 mg/L for an exposure time of 3h. Under the conditions of the present study the test item has no significant inhibitory effect (< 15%) on the respiratory rate of the sludge and thus the EC50 value was assessed to be >1000 mg/L.
