Biodegradation in water: screening tests

Coconut oil reaction products with boric acid and diethanolamine attained 81% degradation after 28 days and therefore can be considered biodegradable under the test conditions. However, the pass level for ready biodegradability, i.e. a percentage biodegradation of at least 60% of the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in a 10-day window within the 28 day period of the test, was missed by a very narrow margin (RCC, 2007).
