Additional information
For discussion of read-across rationale please refer to Section 4 Endpoint Summary: Properties and read-across to EC#434-650-5
The following ecotoxicity data are available for EC# 457-320-2 or the structurally and chemically similar compound, EC# 434-650-5:
Acute fish (EC# 434-650-5) 96-hour NOELR = 670 mg/L (the highest nominal loading rate tested)
Acute fish (EC# 434-650-5) 96-hour NOELR = 94.8 mg/L (the highest nominal loading rate tested)
Acute Daphnia (EC# 457-320-2) 48-hour EL50 = 50 mg/L
Chronic Daphnia (EC# 457-320-2) 21-day NOELR = 100 mg/L (the highest nominal loading rate tested)
Algae (EC# 434-650-5) 72-hour NOELR = 4.05 mg/L; EbL50 = 9.62 mg/L; EtL50 = 14.0 mg/L
ASRI (EC# 434-650-5) 3-hour NOELR = 100 mg/L (the highest nominal loading rate tested)
Earthworm (EC# 457-320-2) 14-day NOEC = 1000 mg/kg dry wt soil (the highest concentration tested)
Conclusion on classification
For algae, CLP uses the EC50 for growth rate as the basis for classification. The EtL50 (EL50 for specific growth rate) in the algal study was 14.0 mg/L.
Therefore, none of the data indicate an EC(L)50 of <1 mg/L or <10 mg/L in any species and, consequently, do not require classification as acute category 1 or chronic category 1 (and hence no M-factor is necessary), or chronic category 2. The algal EtL50 value of 14 mg/L necessitates classification of the substance as chronic category 3, because the substance is additionally not rapidly degradable (see IUCLID Section 5.2.1) and its log Kow is greater than 4 (see IUCLID Section 4.7).
