Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The acute immobilisation of the test item to Daphnia magna was determined according to OECD Guideline 202. The EC50 value after 48 h was determined to be 7.05 mg/L.

Toxicity to algae

The effect of the test item to the unicellular freshwater green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to the OECD 201 and EU Method C.3. and in accordance with GLP.

The EC50-values after 72 hours for inhibition of growth rate (ErC50) is 3.24 mg/L and yield (EyC50) is 1.84 mg/L. The 72hours EC-10-values for inhibition of growth rate (ErC10) is 1.77 mg/L and yield (EyC10) is 1.00 mg/L.

Additional information

The test item is soluble in water (116 g/L) and releases O2 by forming LiOH. The speed of this process is pH dependant.

According to the studies on acute aquatic toxicity with daphnia and algae, no classification with regard to acute aquatic hazard is required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Based on various studies with Li salts including LiOH and Li metal that immediately reacts to LiOH, chronic NOECs or EC10 values are > 1 mg/L for all 3 trophic levels of Li. Thus, no classification with regard to chronic aquatic toxicity is required for the test item according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
