Thermal stability (DSC)
For the DSC runs PN 22334 and PN 22353 in closed crucibles an exothermic effect could be observed in the temperature range of 170 – 290 °C with an average energy release of -580 J/g. An endothermic effect was detected in the temperature range of 290 – 420 °C. The results of the DSC-measurements are summarized in Table 1.

Explosive Properties UN Class 1
The DSC-measurements in the closed crucibles showed a decomposition of the test item with an average decomposition energy of - 580 J/g, meaning the decomposition energy is above the threshold of -500 J/g to exclude explosive properties.
Due to the fact that the decomposition energy is above the threshold of -500 J/g the Koenen and the Time-Pressure test had to be performed.
Due to the fact that the decomposition energy is below the threshold of -800 J/g the Trauzl test had not to be performed.

Thermal Sensitivity: Koenen-Test
Three tests with a 1.0 mm diameter orifice plate were performed. In all tests, first a flame was detected within the first half minute after heating start. After approx. 110 s the tube blowed up and the wall of the tube splitted. The flame kept burning until the end of the test. After the test, the wall and bottom of the tube was bulged out and the wall was split.

t2: time to main reaction: Blowing and bursting of tube
The observed effect is assigned to type “D”: Wall of tube split. According to UN Transport Regulation Test 1 (b) and 2 (b) this type of result is regarded as “no explosion”.
Due to the fact that the test series with a 1.0 mm diameter orifice plate resulted in no explosion, the limiting diameter is recorded as being less than 1.0 mm and thus the UN Transport Regulation Test 1 (b) and 2 (b) deemed to be “-”.

Explosive Properties; Time-Pressure Test

Due to the fact that the test item did not reach a pressure of 2070 kPa, the UN Transport Regulation Test 1 (c) and 2 (c) deemed to be “-”.
