- The rate of hydrolysis at 50 ± 0.5ºC was assessed for pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9. The percent degradation of the test item were found to be100% at each pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 buffers over a period of 5 days of incubation. Hence, the test item was hydrolytically unstable in pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 at 50 ± 0.5ºC after 5 days.
Based on the preliminary test results, the test item 1,3-Propene Sultone was hydrolytically unstable in pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 at 50°C. - Transformation products:
- no
- Remarks:
- From the Tier 2 results, the HPLC chromatograms of the test item in 3 pH buffers solutions incubated at 3 temperatures evidenced that there were no peaks identified other than the test item and diluent peaks. There is no formation of hydrolyzed product.

The preliminary test at 50± 0.5°C after 5 days, the test item 1,3-Propene Sultone was found to be hydrolytically unstable due to 100% hydrolyzed in pH 4.0, pH 7.0 and pH 9.0 buffer test solutions.
In further tests tier 2, the hydrolysis of the test item was investigated as a function of pH (4, 7 and 9) at 15± 0.5°C, 25± 0.5°C and 50± 0.5°C respectively.
At pH 4, the rate constant and half-life of the reactions at 25± 0.5°C was determined to be 0.0071 h-1 and 97.61 h, respectively.
At pH 7, the rate constant and half-life of the reactions at 25± 0.5°C was determined to be 0.0075 h-1 and 92.40 h, respectively.
At pH 9, the rate constant and half-life of the reactions at 25± 0.5°C was determined to be 0.0067 h-1 and 103.43 h, respectively. - Executive summary:
The hydrolysis of the test item as a function of pH in aqueous solution was determined according to OECD guideline 111.
A preliminary test (Tier 1) was performed. The rate of hydrolysis at 50 ± 0.5°C was assessed for pH 4, 7 and 9.The percent degradation of the test item were 100% at each pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 buffers over a period of 5 days of incubation. Hence the test item was hydrolytically unstable in pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 at 50± 0.5°Cafter 5 days.
Based on the results from the Preliminary test / Tier 1, further testing Tier 2 was conducted at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9with solutions being maintained at 15.0 ± 0.5°C, 25.0 ± 0.5°C and 50.0 ± 0.5°C for various time periods.
Based on tier 2 results, the determined degradation rate constant and half-life values were provided below.

Based on Tier 2 results, no other breakdown products are detected, hence tier 3 test for the identification of other products was not performed.
The mean logarithms of the relative concentrations were plotted against time using linear regression analysis. At all temperatures of15± 0.5°C, 25± 0.5°C and 50± 0.5°C, linear relationships were obtained and the correlation coefficient (r2) were ranged between 0.9244 to 0.9974.
Conclusion:
The preliminarytest at 50± 0.5°Cafter 5 days, the test item 1,3-Propene Sultone was found to be hydrolytically unstable due to 100% hydrolyzed in pH 4.0, pH 7.0 and pH 9.0 buffer test solutions.

At pH 9, the rate constant and half-life of the reactions at 25± 0.5°Cwas determined to be 0.0067 h-1and 103.43 h, respectively.

Description of key information
The hydrolysis of the test item as a function of pH in aqueous solution was determined according to OECD guideline 111.
A preliminary test (Tier 1) was performed. The rate of hydrolysis at 50 ± 0.5°C was assessed for pH 4, 7 and 9.
Based on the results from the Preliminary test / Tier 1, further testing Tier 2 was conducted at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 with solutions being maintained at 15.0 ± 0.5°C, 25.0 ± 0.5°C and 50.0 ± 0.5°C for various time periods.
The half-life for hydrolysis of PST is described as below:
pH=4.0: Half-life are 288.75, 97.61, 9.96 h at temperature of 15, 25, 50 ℃, respectively.
pH=7.0: Half-life are 266.54, 92.40, 9.90 h at temperature of 15, 25, 50 ℃, respectively.
pH=9.0: Half-life are 301.30, 103.43, 9.71 h at temperature of 15, 25, 50 ℃, respectively.
Based on Tier 2 results, no other breakdown products are detected, hence tier 3 test for the identification of other products was not performed.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Half-life for hydrolysis:
- 92.4 h
- at the temperature of:
- 25 °C
