Description of key information
Density: The weight of evidence from company data is for specific gravity values in the range ca. 1.3 - 1.4 g/cm³ under ambient conditions for various commercial solutions.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
No relative density of solid values are available, but this does not constitute a data gap since no solid DTPMP (5-7Na) products are known. A number of specific gravity values of individual commercial products are known for the aqueous solution of sodium salts of DTPMP. While the individual sources are secondary literature, meaning that in most cases the reliabilities are not assignable, overall the weight of evidence is taken to be adequately reliable for the purpose of registration.
The following company data of non-assignable reliability are available:
1) Density values of ca. 1.3 - 1.4 g/cm³ at 20°C and bulk density of 0.5 g/cm3 at 20°C were reported for commercial forms of DTPMP (1-3Na) in the online product specification data for a major European producer.
2) A specific gravity of 1.42 g/cm³ at 20°C was reported for DTPMP-H in online product literature for a major European producer. The original reference was not available for review and no further information is available.
3) A typical specific gravity of 1370 to 1410 kg/m3 (1.37 - 1.41 g/cm3) at 20°C was reported for DTPMP-7Na in a company product data sheet for a major European importer. The original reference was not available for review and no further information is available.
4) A density of 1.31 -1.33 g/cm3 at 20°C was reported for DTPMP (5 -7Na) in a company product data sheet.
DTPMP-H is a member of the DTPMP category, which is comprised of the acid form and any simple salts of the same acid.
The category hypothesis is that all the members are various ionised forms of the same parent acid. This category covers various sodium, potassium and ammonium salts of diethylene triamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid). The different salts are prepared by neutralising the acid to a specific pH and accordingly the proportions of the constituents and their degree of ionisation are comparable between substances under similar conditions (in vivoand in the environment). All category members are based on the DTPMP structure. Data are available for the acid form and some salts of DTPMP.
The read-across is therefore based on the presence of common functional groups in both the acid and the salt. The available density results are consistent for the aqueous solution of DTPMP acid and salts.
