- At the start of the exposure and at the renewal (0 and 24 hours), samples were taken after preparation of the limit concentration and analyzed.
At the renewal and at the end of the exposure (24 and 48 hours), samples of the 24-hours old media were taken from additional replicates with test media, but without daphnids. These replicates were incubated under test conditions until sampling. - Details on test solutions:
- A WSF with a loading level of 100 mg/L of the test item was tested in a limit test. The loading was chosen based on the results of a preliminary range finding test.
A water soluble fraction (WSF) was prepared 24 ± 1 hour prior to the start of the exposure (day -1) as well as prior to the renewal of the test solutions (day 0).
For the preparation of the WSF, an appropriate amount of the test item was weighed and placed onto a glass slide.
The glass slide with the test item was inserted in a brown glass flask filled with an appropriate amount of demineralized water.
This dispersion was shaken for 24 hours with 20 rpm at room temperature. Undissolved particles were removed by membrane filtration (membrane filter 0.45 µm, RC, MACHEREY-NAGEL).
The filter was saturated in order to avoid adsorption during the filtration.
The first 25 mL of the filtrate were discarded. The filtration was interrupted for 15 minutes to allow adsorption and saturation of the filter material with dissolved test item.
Thereafter, the filtration was continued. The next 25 mL were discarded. The following filtrate, i.e. the water soluble fraction (WSF) was used in the test.
During filtration, the filter was always kept covered with the test solution.
The following filtrate (WSF) was used in the test after addition of the mineral components of the dilution water.

A preliminary range finding test under semi-static conditions over aperiod of 48 hours was conducted at the test facility with three water soluble fractions (WSF) with nominal test item concentrations 1, 10 and 100 mg/L prepared with dilution water.

- The study was performed according to OECD Guideline 202 (2004). The validity criteria were fulfilled:
- In the control group, no daphnids were immobilized or showed any signs of disease or stress, e.g. discoloration or unusual behavior such as trapping on the surface of the water, during the 48-hour test period (required: not more than 10% of the daphnids immobilized in the control).
- The dissolved O2 concentration in the 24-hours old media was ≥ 7.04 mg/L (required: ≥ 3 mg/L in the 24-hours old media) in the WSF and in the control. - Results with reference substance (positive control):
- The percentage of immobility for the reference item potassium dichromate (SIGMA-ALDRICH, batch number MKBV0900V, purity 99.0%, CAS RN 7778-50-9) was determined after 24 hours from 2018 11-14 to 2018-11-15.

In the acute immobilization test with Daphnia magna (STRAUS), the effects of a Water Soluble Fraction (WSF) with a nominal loading of 100 mg/L of the test item Octadecanoic acid, reaction products with acetic acid and tetraethylenepentamine were determined.
The test item is an UVCB substance and appears as yellow flakes. The water solubility of the test item is 18.85 ± 0.40 mg/L. Since the test item is an UVCB substance (reaction product).
The WSFs prepared with a loading of 100 mg/L were colorless and visually clear throughout the exposure period. Twenty daphnids (divided into 4 replicates with 5 daphnids each) were exposed to the WSF and the control.
The total organic carbon concentration of the test item was measured in the fresh media at the start of the exposure and at the renewal of the test solutions (0 and 24 hours) as well as in the old media at the renewal and at the end of the exposure (48 hours) in the WSF and in the control.
The measured concentrations in the WSF were 5.88 and 3.44 mg C/L in the fresh medium (0 and 24 hours) and 7.22 and < 2.00 mg C/L in the old medium (24 and 48 hours).
