- Endpoint:
- particle size distribution (granulometry)
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The particle size distribution of Quartzene CMS powder was measured by laser diffraction using Mastersizer 3000.
The Mastersizer 3000 delivers rapid and accurate particle size distributions for both wet and dry dispersions. Measuring over the nanometer to millimeter particle size ranges, it does this by measuring the intensity of light scattered as a laser beam passes through a dispersed particulate sample. This data is then analysed to calculate the size of the particles that created the scattering pattern. - GLP compliance:
- no
- Type of method:
- Laser scattering/diffraction
- Type of particle tested:
- other: See "Remarks"
- Remarks:
- Sample particles in the dry state are dispersed using a venturi driven by compressed air. For each venturi, the amount of energy available to disperse the sample will depend on the pressure of the compressed air.

- Conclusions:
- The particle size distribution of CMS powder was measured to 2.00-19.0 µm by means of laser diffraction using Mastersizer 3000.
- Executive summary:
The particle size distribution of CMS powder was measured by laser diffraction using Mastersizer 3000. The median Dx(50) was 6.23µm. An indication of particle size distribution is obtained by the numbers Dx(10) = 2.00µm and Dx(90) = 19.00µm. Dx(10) indicates that 10 % of the particle population is below this size and Dx(90) indicates that 90 % of the particle population is below this size. No measurments have been performed on the paste form of CMS:
