Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the relative self-ignition temperature of the test item using the Grewer Oven. The test is designed to determine the relative auto-ignition temperature of a product in a hot air-stream (100 - 120 L/h). 8 cm of the test item were placed in a cylindrical fine wire mesh container and in a Grewer oven at 24 °C; the temperature/time curve relating to conditions in the centre of the sample and the reference item (graphite powder) was recorded while the temperature of the oven was increased to 435 °C at a rate of 1.8 °C/min, while a hot air stream was blown through them. The test item showed an endothermic effect in the temperature range of approx. 55 – 80 °C (melting) and no exothermal reaction of the test item was observed up to a maximum temperature of 435 °C. Thus, no self-ignition temperature could be stated.

Additionally, in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the auto-flammability study does not need to be conducted as the substance is a solid with a melting point <160 °C (reference 4.12-2).
