Description of key information

In an OECD203 limit test no toxicity to fish (Danio rerio) could be determined up to the concetration of the saturated solution of Trimethyl(octadecyloxy)silane.

The registration substance is highly insoluble in water (WL<0.005mg/l ; s. IUCLID chapter 4.8), hence indicating that aquatic toxicity is unlikely to occur. Therefore no further testing is warranted.

The possible products of hydrolysis are 1-octadecanol (CAS:112 -92 -5) and Trimethylsilanol (CAS:1066 -40 -6).

Trimethylsilanol are not classified with regards to environment according to CLP inventory.

Octadecanol is REACH registered leading also in no classification with regards to environment.

C&L

The registration substance is readily biodegradable, failing the 10d-window. Up to the very low water solubility of the registration substance no aquatic effects were observed or expected. Based on these facts it can be concluded

Short-term effects

CLP                 no environmental classification required

Long-term (chronic) effects

CLP             no environmental classification required
