- water solubility
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- Experimental starting date 06 February 2017; Experimental completion date 03 April 2017
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: Based on or adapted from: ISO 4311: Anionic and non-ionic surface active agents — Determination of the critical micellization concentration — Method by measuring surface tension with a plate, stirrup or ring.
- Version / remarks:
- The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the test item was determined since the test item is surface active
- Deviations:
- not applicable
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Type of method:
- other: Method by measuring surface tension with a plate, stirrup or ring
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Test item 207569/B
Identification Quaternium-26
Appearance Clear amber to dark amber liquid
Batch 0001954899
Composition UVCB
Purity ca. 60% in propylene glycol
Storage At room temperature
Stable under storage conditions until 22 December 2017 (retest date) - Water solubility:
- 50 mg/L
- Conc. based on:
- test mat. (total fraction)
- Loading of aqueous phase:
- 50 mg/L
- Temp.:
- 20 °C
- pH:
- 7
- Remarks on result:
- other: At this concentration the surface tension was still above 60 mN/m
- Key result
- Water solubility:
- 407 mg/L
- Conc. based on:
- test mat. (total fraction)
- Incubation duration:
- >= 15 - < 50 min
- Temp.:
- 20 °C
- pH:
- 7
- Remarks on result:
- other: This value stands for the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of Quaternium-26.
- Details on results:
- The CMC was determined from the intersection of the two trend lines y1 and y2. Trendline y1 was obtained using the data of the test solutions with test item
concentrations of 50, 103, and 251 mg/L. Trendline y2 was obtained from the mean surface tension of the test solutions with test item concentrations of 502, 5064, 10090 and 20011 mg/L. The intersection was calculated to be at a log C value of 2.61 corresponding with a CMC of 407 mg/L. - Conclusions:
- The CMC of the test item was determined by measuring the surface tension of test item solutions at different test item concentrations. The Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) of Quaternium-26 is 407 mg/L.
