Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Additional information
mmt has a log Koc value of 3.4. This value indicates the potential to adsorb to organic matter in sediments/soil/sewage sludge, etc. Experimental data demonstrates that mmt rapidly adsorbed to sediment surfaces.
The main mmt exposure to the environment results from release at gasoline filling stations and releases from car exhausts. The estimated concentrations of manganese in air from use of mmt was calculated using data from an NASN survey and by modeling mmt's environmental fate.
Ter Haar concluded in his publication, that due to the low concentration of mmt in the gasoline and the photosensitivity of mmt, the expected upper-limit concentrations of manganese in the air, would be in the order of 1.2 x10-5µg Mn/m3.
Potential increases in Mn in soil resulting from releases from the exhaust gases was estimated by Bhuie et al. The estimated mmt input levels were determined to be negligible in comparison with natural Mn content in soils. The annual increase of Mn would be at most 5.73 mg/kg , while the natural occurring Mn soil content is up to 7000 mg/kg.
