Symptoms: several toxic effects (apathy, accelerated respiration, swimming along the water surface, supine position, and anesthesia) were observed at test concentrations above 1.6 mg/L. At 6.3 mg/L all fish died within the first 48 hours.

- The following validity criteria from OECD 203 are fulfilled: the mortality in the control did not exceed 10% at the end of the test; the dissolved oxygen concentration was at least 60% of the air saturation value throughout the test.

- Executive summary:
In a 96-h acute toxicity study, golden orfe (Leuciscus idus melanotus) were exposed to 3-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), Chloranil (2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone)at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 1.6, 2.5, 4.0, and 6.3 mg/L under static conditions. No guideline was followed but the principle of the method was equivalent to OECD guideline 203. The study was not performed in compliance with GLP. Reliability grade 2 was assigned.The 96-h LC50 was 4.6 mg/L.Several toxic effects (apathy, accelerated respiration, swimming along the water surface, supine position, and anesthesia) were observed at test concentrations above 1.6 mg/L.
