Study period:
2016-12-13 – 2016-12-14
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 2719 (Determination of flash point - Pensky-Martens closed cup method)
Version / remarks:
2002
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The flash point of a flammable liquid is the lowest temperature at which there will be enough flammable vapor to ignite when an
ignition source is applied.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
closed cup
Flash point:
119.6 °C
Atm. press.:
977.6 hPa
Interpretation of results:
other: not classified
Conclusions:
The mean flash point of 3-Hydroxyacetophenone(CAS No. 121-71-1) is 119.6°C at 977.6hPa.
Executive summary:

The flash point determination of 3-Hydroxyacetophenone (CAS No. 121-71-1)was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be 119.6°C at 977.6hPa. Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence the 3-Hydroxyacetophenone (121 -71 -1) was considered to be non-flammable.

Description of key information

The flash point determination of 3-Hydroxyacetophenone (CAS No. 121-71-1) was done by laboratory following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be 119.6°C at 977.6 hPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:

Additional information

Various laboratory reports and databases were reviewed to summarize the following information of 3- hydroxyacetophenone:

The flash point determination of 3-Hydroxyacetophenone (CAS No. 121-71-1) was done by laboratory following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be 119.6°C at 977.6hPa.

From the available data of Haz-map and chemspider database the flash point of 3'-Hydroxyacetophenone (121-71-1) was determined to be >93.333 degree C and 115.8 degree C. Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence the 3-Hydroxyacetophenone (121 -71 -1) was considered to be non-flammable.

As per the available data for flash point from laboratory report and authoritative databases, the flash point value determined was in range from 93.33 degree C to 119.6 degree C. As the data from lab has K1 reliability and the test was performed using OECD guidelines which has the value of flash point as 119.6 °C at 977.6 hPa within the range thus considered as key study for the chemical safety assessment. Also based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence the 3-Hydroxyacetophenone (121 -71 -1) was considered to be non-flammable.
