Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

No reliable test data are available for dibutoxy(dimethyl)silane (CAS 1591-02-2). Reliable acute aquatic toxicity tests results are available for the silanol reaction product of the test substance, dimethylsilanediol (CAS 1066-42-8).

See Section 6 endpoint summary for read-across justification.

Reliable acute toxicity tests results are available with dimethylsilanediol for freshwater invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata). LC50 or EC50 values for these organisms were >117 and >118 mg/L respectively. A NOEC of ≥118 mg/L was determined in the algal test. The results are based on measured DOC concentrations and the studies were conducted according to OECD TG 202 and 201 respectively.

Dibutoxy(dimethyl)silane also produces butan-1-ol (n-butanol) as a result of hydrolysis. An OECD SIDS is available with n-butanol (CAS 71-36-3) indicating that the substance is of low hazard to the environment. Reliable acute toxicity tests results are available with freshwater fish (Pimephales promelas), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Selenastrum capricornutum). The key or range of LC50 or EC50 values for the three organisms were 1376, from 1300 to 1900 and 225 mg/L respectively. A NOEC of 129 mg/L was determined in the algal test. n-Butanol is not classified for the environment.
