Description of key information

Tin monooxide (SnO) is insoluble in water (< 0.0002 mg/L) at neutral pH. It remains solid up to > 550°C and has a high relative density.
Generally, absorption of tin from the gastrointestinal tract is low in humans and laboratory animals, including rats, mice, rabbits, cats, and dogs. This information has been derived from soluble tin compounds. Tin monoxide is insoluble in water (< 0.2 microgramms/L), but dissolves in acids to form Sn2+ and in base to form stannite ion, Sn(OH)3–.
Therefore, it is not expected to be absorbed after skin contact. Absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is expected to be very low.
