Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation: in the event of dust or vapor inhalation, take the victim into a well-ventilated room; ease breathing by medical means, do not give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation except in an extreme emergency; provide oxygen if breathing is difficult; consult a doctor immediately.
Contact with skin: remove any soiled clothing. Rinse thoroughly under running water for a prolonged period.
Contact with eyes: rinse thoroughly under running water for several minutes then consult a doctor or an ophthalmologist.
Ingestion: if ingested, see a doctor.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing agents: use all extinguishing equipment suitable for materials in the vicinity. When dissolved in water, a large amount of heat is released.
Specific risks: possibility of irritating or toxic fumes.
Protection equipment: wear self-contained breathing apparatus with a full-face mask and chemical protection clothing.
Accidental release measures
Personal precaution: prevent inhalation of dust.
Precaution to protect the environment: do not release into sewage system.
Clean-up: Sweep up and collect substance in containers then wash the floor.
Handling and storage
Handling:
- If ventilation is insufficient, wear suitable breathing apparatus.
- Wear appropriate gloves, appropriate clothes and protective goggles.
- When dissolving, slowly add the product to the water, never the contrary.
Storage:
- Store sealed in a dry place (Magnesium chloride is highly hygroscopic).
- Storage temperature: no limit.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Personal protection:
- Respiratory protection: to prevent the risk of inhalation, air the room unless powder is present. If there is a risk of inhaling dust and/or fumes, wear an FFP3-type mask.
- Protecting the hands: wear appropriate gloves.
- Protecting the eyes: wear protective goggles.
- Protecting the skin: Wear appropriate clothing
- Special hygiene measures: do not eat, drink or smoke while working. Remove any soiled clothing. Wash your hands after handling the substance
Stability and reactivity
Chemical stability: very hygroscopic, tends to become deliquescent.
Condition to be avoided: strong heating.
Materials to be avoided: chlorates. Hydrocarbons (fuels). Peroxycarboxy-2-furan (explosion). Water (possible heat release).
Hazardous decomposition products: magnesium oxide, chlorine, chlorine oxides. When heated to high temperatures, may release toxic hydrogen chloride fumes; when heated slowly, releases chlorine at 300°C.
Disposal considerations
Disposal of the product: dissolution and neutralization.
Handling of containers: slice down the container then use an approved disposal technique.
