Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

In a skin sensitisation study in the guinea pig, conducted according to OECD 406 (Buehler method) and in compliance with GLP, 1,6-bis(trimethoxysilyl)hexane was not sensitising (Dow Corning Corporation, 2009c). There were no positive skin reactions in any animals following treatment with an induction concentration of 50% in PEG 300 and challenge concentrations of 1% and 10%.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
In a skin sensitisation study in the guinea pig, conducted according to OECD 406 (Buehler method) and in compliance with GLP, 1,6-bis(trimethoxysilyl)hexane was not sensitising (Dow Corning Corporation, 2009c).

Justification for selection of skin sensitisation endpoint:
The selected study is the only available skin sensitisation test for this substance. It was conducted in accordance with an appropriate OECD test guideline and in compliance with GLP.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available in vivo study, the substance is not classified for skin sensitisation according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
