Description of key information
Two acute studies are available on the toxicity of IPHA to aquatic fish. The first acute study (2004) was conducted on the freshwater fish Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and the second acute study (2011) was conducted on the marine fish Sheepshead minnow (Cyrprinidon variegataus). Both the Rainbow trout and Sheephead minnow studies were conducted according to the OECD 201 guideline (Fish, Acute toxicity). No analytical verification was conducted on either test, thus endpoint values were based on nominal exposure values.

One acute study with a freshwater fish and one acute study with a marine fish is available. For the freshwater compartment, a static study with Rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) are available (The Dow Chemical Company, 2004). The study was conducted according to the OECD 203 guideline (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test). The 96-h EC50 was 465 mg/l and the 96-h NOEC was 360 mg/L, based on nominal concentrations.
For the marine compartment, a static-renewal acute study with the marine fish Sheepshead minnow (Cyprinidon variegatus) is available (Harlan Laboratories, Ltd., 2011). In order to reduce testing on vertebrates, this test was conducted as a limit test, with the limit dose set at the calculated LC50 value from the IPHA marine invertebrate (Acartia tonsa) test, which was 1.4 mg/L. Based on this, the 96-h LC50 was determined to be > 1.4 mg/L, the limit do+se and the 96-h NOEC was 1.4 mg/L, based on nominal concentrations.
