Description of key information

In an OECD 202 study, the 48 h EL50 to D. magna was >100 mg/L (highest loading rate tested). This value was adjusted to account for the solvent oil content (40.8%) of the test material; therefore an EL50 value of EC 903-162-9 is >59.2 mg/L.

Testing was conducted in accordance with OECD guideline 202 and to GLP standards. Based on the results of a range finding test, a limit test was conducted with test solution prepared as Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) from an initial test material loading rate of 100 mg/L, corresponding to 59.2 mg EC 903-162-9/L. A control of untreated Daphnia medium was also included. As the test item is a poorly soluble complex mixture, the method of preparation was selected to maximise the solubility of EC-903-162-9 under test exposure conditions, while minimising exposure to insoluble fractions. 

No immobile D. magna were noted throughout the test period. The 48 h EL50 was therefore >100 mg/L (highest loading rate tested), and the no observed effect loading rate (NOELR) is concluded to be 100 mg/L. These values were adjusted to account for the solvent oil content (40.8%) of the test material; therefore the EL50 value and NOELR for EC 903 -162 -9 are >59.2 mg/L and 59.2 mg/L, respectively.

A read across study conducted on an analogue of EC 903-162-9 is also presented in support of the read-across justification provided in IUCLID section 13. The EL50 value for this study was determined to be >1000 mg/L (highest loading rate tested) when tested as a water accommodated fraction. From the results it is clear that both materials do not show signs of aquatic toxicity in the short term toxicity test for Daphnia Magna.
