Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test substance Cyclododecanol tel quel was tested in the Alga, Growth Inhibition Test according to the OECD Guideline for the Testing of Chemicals No. 201 (23 March 2006) using the single cell green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism. The experiment was carried out as a static test. Based on non-GLP pre-test results the main test was performed with test substance concentrations of nominal 0, 1.0, 2.5, 6.25, 15.63, and 39.06 mg/L culture medium. The EC50 (72h) for growth rate was 8.86 mg/L (geometric mean measured) and the EC10 (72 h) for growth rate was 4.61 mg/ (geometric mean measured).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
8.86 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
4.61 mg/L

Additional information

The test substance cyclododecanol tel quel consists of ca. 70% cyclododecanol and 30% cyclododecanone. As cyclododecanol is the main component it can be assumed that pure cyclododecanol (purity: >= 96.5%) would evoke similar effects in algae.
