- Specimens of each test concentration were drawn from the approximate centre of the test vessels. They were taken immediately before the exposure and after 96 hours exposure. If any of the concentrations showed 100 % mortality before the end of the test, specimens were taken when all fish had died.

- STOCK SOLUTIONS AND TEST CONCENTRATIONS:
Prior to initiating the definitive test, a static range-finding test was performed with 100 mg test item/L. Based on the results of this range-finding test, the nominal concentration was selected for the definitive test. The stock solution was prepared the following way: 2 g of the test item was mixed with about 200 mL test water in a beaker, homogenised by ultrasonic treatment for 5 minutes and then filled up to 2 L with test water. Calculated amounts of the stock solutions to produce the desired test concentrations were given into the aquaria and filled up to 15 L with dilution water. - Test organisms (species):

- Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Commercial supplier: P. Hohler/CH- 4314 Zeiningen /Switzerland. Fish supplied in one batch were all of a similar age and size. Fish were held in dechlorinated tap water and fed daily (except for weekends) with a commercially prepared trout food diet: NAFAG No. 8487 S (Nähr- und Fischfutter AG, CH-9202 Gossau). Fish used in the test were not fed 24 hours prior to initiation of the test. Quality of the fish was assessed during an acclimatisation period of at least 12 days in dechlorinated tap water. Fish were not treated for disease during holding.

No precipitation was observed in the test solution throughout the duration of the test. Measured concentrations of the test item was 90.56 mg/L at the beginning and 90.29 mg/L at the end of the exposure period. Hence, the results are based on the nominal concentrations. No mortality of fish was recorded in the control and the test concentration of 100 mg/L during the 96 hour exposure period. No sublethal effects such as changes in swimming behaviour, respiratory function, pigmentation or loss of equilibrium were observed in the control or the treatment concentration of 100 mg/L during the 96 hour test period. The mortality in the blank control was 0 %. Based on the test results, LC50 (96h) of FAT 40800/A was determined to be >100 mg/L.
