Description of key information
96-h LC50 has been determined for four different species of fish in the same pre-guideline study using a method comparable to OECD TG 203 (Hollander/Hoechst AG, 1976; ; statistical re-evaluation OXEA, 2015).
rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss): 96-h LC50 = 100.3 mg/L
mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio): 96-h LC50 = 142.6 mg/L
pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus): 96-h LC50 = 175.3 mg/L
golden orfe (Leucisus idus melanotus): 96-h LC50 = 153.5 mg/L
For derivation of PNEC, the LC50 for the most sensitive species, Oncorhynchus mykiss, is used: 100.3 mg/L

Four different species of fish have been tested for short-term toxicity in a pre-guideline study using a method comparable to OECD TG 203 (Hollander/Hoechst AG, 1976; statistical re-evaluation by OXEA, 2015). Differing from TG 203, test concentrations were not measured. For three species lower numbers of fish, as required, were used. The results are shown in the following table.

Overall, the short-term toxicity tests to fish resulted in LC50 values between 100.3 and 175.3 mg/L.
As demonstrated in tests with daphnids and algae (see section 6.1.3 and 6.1.5), test substance concentrations in aqueous test medium are quite stable over time. Thus, the test substance concentration is considered as sufficiently maintained.
The number of test organisms complies with test guideline requirements only for the test with golden orfe. But deviations in the tests with rainbow trout and pumpkinseed are only minor (6 animals instead of 7). This difference is estimated not to invalidate the test results. Therefore, the test resulting in the lowest LC50 (rainbow trout LC50 = 100.3 mg/L) is selected as key study.
In a 96-h acute toxicity study, groups of 6 rainbow trouts (oncorhynchus mykiss) in 30 L glas vessels were exposed to TCD-Alcohol DM (octahydro-4,7-methano-1H-indenedimethanol) at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 32, 50, 80, 125, and 200 mg TS/L under static conditions.
Sublethal effects of reduced mobility and respiration as well as gasping, disturbance of equilibrium and narcosis were observed.
The 96-h LC50 was 100.3 mg TS/L (Hollander/Hoechst AG, 1976; statistical re-evaluation by OXEA, 2015).
