Additional information

γ-decalactone is a linear saturated 4-hydroxycarboxylic acid derived-lactone with 10 carbons.

The influence of Gamma Decalactone on the growth of the freshwater green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was assessed in a static concentration-response test. The 72-hour EyC50was calculated to be 12.2 mg test item/L and the 72-hour ErC50value was calculated to be 37.2 mg test item/L. The 72-hour NOEyC was determined to be < 1.45 mg test item/L and the associated 72-hour LOEyC was 1.45 mg test item/L. The 72-hour NOErC was determined to be 14.7 mg test item/L and the associated 72-hour LOErC was 47.9 mg test item/L.

Other data are available to assess the toxicity to aquatic algae of three structurally similar compounds of aliphatic lactones: γ-nonalactone, γ-decalactone and γ-undecalactone. These data are not used to support the experimental algae study performed on γ-decalactone but are used to support the read-across strategy between these three substances, as mentionned in the Read-across Justification in Section 13.
