Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Allergic contact dermatitis in humans to mercury was shown to be uncommon, and thus classification is not required. In addition, MISCELA HY-TQS, an alloy containing about 24.8% mercury, did not appear to possess a sensitizing capacity in a Buehler test in Guinea pigs.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
For skin sensitisation, no results from studies with inorganic mercury in animals are available. However, patch tests in a relatively large number of humans suggest that allergic contact dermatitis to mercury is uncommon and rarely of any clinical relevance. In addition, results of a Buehler test with MISCELA HY-TQS, an alloy containing about 24.8% mercury, are availble.
