Due its molecular stucture, IBDU is potentially susceptible to hydrolysis. However, the calculated half-life for hydrolysis is over one year. Hydrolysis of IBDU will be influenced by pH. Measurements gave an increase of total nitrogen and urea nitrogen in the solution as pH decreased.

Furthermore, after evaporation, the product will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes (t1/2 = 8.22 hours). There are no data on the phototransformation in soil and photodegradation in water available, however these are not required for a registration under REACh.
