The biodegradation of the substance was investigated in a modified MITI test corresponding to OECD 301C . The degree of biodegradation by BOD is reported to be 0% (CITI, 1992). The substance triethyl phosphate cannot be considered readily biodegradable.

The biodegradation of the substance was investigated in a Zahn-Wellens test (OECD 302C). 98% biodegradation of the test substance was seen in 21 days under the conditions of this study (Kanne, 1987). However the criterion for inherent biodegradability was not reached as after 7 days only 18% biodegradation were observed.

QSARs for ultimate and ready biodegradation using Biowin 3 and 6 show that the substance is not readily biodegradable. Ultimated biodegradation may be reached within weeks.

In a weight of evidence approach of these three studies it is concluded that Triethyl phosphate is not biodegradable.
