Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General advice: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.
Inhalation of dusts or vapours due to decomposition of product: Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Keep under medical surveillance. In case of problems : Hospitalise.
Skin contact: Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water.
Eye contact: Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with water. If eye irritation persists, consult a specialist.
Ingestion: If the subject is unconscious, do not induce vomiting Hospitalise.
Protection of first-aiders: Products of thermal decomposition: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media: Water, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry powder, Foam
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
Dry product catches fire easily on contact with a flame or electric spark/discharge. Dust may form explosive mixture in the atmosphere if concentrations are higher than 0.02 kg/m³. Thermal decomposition giving flammable and toxic products : Nitrogen, Tetramethylsuccinic acid dinitrile
Precautions for fire-fighters: Specific methods: Ensure a system for the rapid emptying of containers. In case of fire, remove exposed containers.
Special protective actions for fire-fighters: In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:
Avoid contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of dust. Prohibit all sources of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke.
Evacuate non-essential staff and those not equipped with individual protection apparatus
Environmental precautions: Do not release into the environment. Do not let product enter drains.
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:
- Recovery: Recover the product. No sparking tools should be used
- Elimination: Destroy the product by incineration (in small quantities) In accordance with local and national regulations.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling: Technical measures/Precautions:
Storage and handling precautions applicable to products: Solid. Dust forming. Self-reactive. Harmful. Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery and at places where dust can be generated. Provide showers, eye-baths. Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby. Provide fire-blanket nearby. Provide electrical earthing of equipment. Provide water supplies near the point of use.
Safe handling advice: Avoid accumulation of static charges during transfers in metallic systems. Avoid dust formation. Do not heat the product when dry or when in solvent environment. Keep away from heat, spark, open flames, hot surface. Do not smoke.
Strictly limit the quantities of product in the work area to those which are absolutely necessary for the work in hand
Hygiene measures: Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Avoid breathing dust. Do not smoke.
Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Store away from other combustible substances. Store in original container.
Protect from heat. Provide electrical earthing of equipment and electrical equipment usable in explosive atmospheres. Use non-combustible construction materials. Storage temperature: < 25 °C (for safety reason) < 15 °C (to maintain th e technical properties of the product, to avoid agglomeration)
Incompatible products: Ketones, Aldehydes, Heptane, Alcohols, Concentrated solutions and when hot, Alkali metals
Packaging material: Recommended: Antistatic treated polyethylene liners in board drums
