Description of key information
The effect of DOWANOL PnB Glycol Ether on activated sludge microorganisms was assessed by the Activated Sludge Respiration Inhibition Test
Method (OECD Guideline 209). The resulting 3-hr EC50 was >1000 mg/L.

One key study that assessed the effect of DOWANOL PnB Glycol Ether on microorganisms was available along with two supporting studies. In an activated sludge, respiration inhibition test, a 3hr EC50 > 1000 mg/L was reported. In a bacterial inhibition test the IC50 (16 hours) of Butyl PROPASOL Solvent was determined to be 1303 mg/L and the the EC50 (48 hours) of propylene glycol butyl ether in an Ames test (Salmonella typhimurium) was > 5000 µg/plate.
