Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

FATTY ACIDS, C8 -10, ZINC SALTS:

Terrestrial toxicity data are not available for fatty acids, C8-10, zinc salts. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble zinc substances and C8-10 fatty acids is applied since zinc cations and fatty acid anions determine fate and toxicity in the environment. It is assumed that fatty acids, C8 -10, zinc salts dissociate into zinc cations and fatty acid anions upon dissolution or intake. Further, zinc cations are expected to be the ecotoxicologically more relevant moiety. The potential for terrestrial toxicity of the fatty acid chain, i.e. C8-10 fatty acids, is assumed to be low based on the rapid degradability, low bioaccumulation potential and the fact that fatty acids are nutrionally requested by organisms. For more detailed information, please refer to the respective endpoint summaries for the assessment entities “zinc” and “C8 -10 fatty acids”.
