The Candidate List of substances of very high concern now contains 223 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment. Companies are responsible for managing the chemicals safely and providing sufficient information to their customers and consumers.
Mr Shay O’Malley, Director of Resources, will be ECHA’s Acting Executive Director as of 1 April 2022, until the new Head of the Agency starts in the role. Bjorn Hansen will retire on 31 March 2022.
Companies need to choose the correct substance dose for their toxicity tests to conclude on the safety of their chemicals. This is clarified in the amended REACH annexes, which apply as of January 2022. ECHA’s advice helps companies ensure reliable results while avoiding repeated animal tests.
