Since no studies investigating the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, di-Me esters, hydrogenated (CAS 147853-32-5) are available, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5, a read-across to the structurally similar substances Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers (CAS 61788-89-4) and Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., trimers (CAS No. 68937-90-6) was conducted. Further justification is given in the overall endpoint summary (IUCLID Chapter 6.1) and within the analogue justification attached in IUCLID Section 13.
The key study conducted with Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers (CAS 61788-89-4) was performed as a limit test according to OECD 202 and GLP (Kelly, 2002). The test organism Daphnia magna was exposed to the test substance in a static system at a loading rate of 1000 mg/L. Due to the poor solubility of the test material, the test solution was prepared as water accommodated fraction (WAF).No effects were observed in the treatment, and the NOELR was determined to be ≥ 1000 mg/L (nominal) (EL50 > 1000 mg/L).
A supporting study conducted with Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., trimers (CAS 68937-90-6) was performed according to ISO 14669 and GLP (Källqvist, 2004). The marine test organism Acartia tonsa was exposed to the test substance in a static system at loading rates of 100, 180, 320, 560 and 1000 mg/L. Due to the poor solubility of the test material, the test solutions were prepared as water accommodated fractions (WAF). The mortality was less than 5% at WAF loadings up to 1000 mg/L, and the NOELR was determined to be ≥ 1000 mg/L (LL50 > 1000 mg/L).
Based on the above mentioned results and the substance similarities in structure and profile as explained within the overall endpoint summary (IUCLID Chapter 6.1), short-term toxicity of Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, di-Me esters, hydrogenated (CAS 147853-32-5) to aquatic invertebrates is not expected up to the limit of water solubility (< 0.1 mg/L).
