Endpoint:
auto-flammability
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
June, 2007
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: method ,,B’’, clause 5 of Polish Standard PN-EN 50281-2-1:2002-12. „Electrical apparatus for use in the presence of combustible dust Part 2-1: Test methods – Methods for determining the minimum ignition temperatures of dust”.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test for dusts, powders and granulates consists in introducing into the vertical, opened on one end, cylindrical ignition chamber (silica glass tube) heated in electric oven (Godbert-Greenwald apparatus), a small amount of sample using a blast of compressed air and observing if, for a given temperature of the chamber walls, an ignition appears or not. Changing in many ignition trials the temperature of the chamber walls and amount of a sample according to requirements fixed in Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) we are looking for the lowest value of temperature in which an ignition appears.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Auto-ignition temperature:
690 °C
Atm. press.:
1 014 hPa

Preliminary ignition temperature value:

Optimum experimental conditions established for this determination were as follows:

Compressed air blast time: 0,2 s

Compressed air blast pressure: 0,15 Kpa

Weighed portion of the sample tested:

Preliminary ignition temperature value determined in preliminary test carried out at elevating temperature in the test chamber and measurements at everywas.

Main determination of ignition temperature:

Temperature– positive result (ignition) at first trial

Temperature– positive result (ignition) at third trial

Temperature– positive result (ignition) at 6-th trial

Temperature– 10 trials including 5 positive

Temperature– 10 trials including 3 positive

Temperature– 10 negative trials

On the basis of trials described above and observations made during the run of the main determination, it has been found that the experimental value of minimum ignition temperature ofchelate Fe (III) IDHA was 710 °C.

According to SOP and the Polish Standard PN-EN 50281-2-1:2002-12 it was determined that minimum ignition temperature ofchelate Fe (III) IDHA has a value of 690 °C.

Conclusions:
The minimum ignition temperature of chelate Fe (III) IDHA has a value 690 °C.
Executive summary:

Determination of the ignition temperatureof chelate Fe (III) IDHAwas performed according tomethod ,,B’’,clause 5 of Polish Standard PN-EN 50281-2-1:2002-12. „Electrical apparatus for use in the presence of combustible dust Part 2-1: Test methods – Methods for determining the minimum ignition temperatures of dust”.
