Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Symptomatic treatment.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate promptly with water.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with water.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Symptomatic treatment

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Use water, mist, carbon dioxide or foam extinguishers.

Although treated to keep dust to a minimum, the substance

could form flammable dust clouds in air.

Product determined by test: N

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Damp down, sweep up and shovel into containers. Wash down

area with water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Normal Standards of good housekeeping to avoid ingestion,

skin and eye contact and in particular inhalation of dust.

Respirators should be used if dust is generated.

Storage: No special precautions.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from minor spillages, discharges to effluent or

from dyed fabrics is not economically feasible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: By burying in an approved tip.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: May be rendered harmless by burning under carefully

controlled conditions.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: If diluted to a level at which there is no visible

colouration of the effluent, no harmful effect on aquatic

life is likely.

From the data presented in section 5 and in the literature

(Brown et al, Chemosphere,1981,10(3),245-261), the substance

is unlikely to have any adverse effects on the aerobic or

anaerobic processes within a sewage works. It is unlikely to

be appreciably degraded aerobically nor to be adsorbed

significantly onto sludge and thus will probably pass

through an effluent treatment plant mainly unchanged.

However, it is extensively degraded under anaerobic

conditions and therefore any which is adsorbed on sludge

during passage through a sewage works is likely to be

biodegraded in the digester.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable
